Practitioner Biography

Janet L. Borges is a nationally certified practitioner of acupuncture and Oriental medicine (AOM), holding current licensure in both Virginia and California as a Licensed Acupuncturist (L.Ac.). She has earned a Masters degree in Traditional Chinese Medicine from the American College of Traditional Chinese Medicine (ACTCM) in San Francisco, CA.  Her comprehensive training included Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM) theory and diagnostics, background theory in Western medicine, anatomy, physiology, and TCM nutrition. In addition she studied Chinese herbal medicine throughout the program. Four years of hands-on clinical training in the ACTCM clinic, as well as off campus internships, were integral to her training.

Janet’s personal history with AOM dates to 1979 when she chose it as her primary means of healthcare, which motivated her to return to school after other career endeavors in order to help others find the benefit of this medicine. Her background includes studies in psychology, homeopathy and Buddhism as well as artistic pursuits such as music and theater.  In addition to private practice, Janet is a representative for the Chinese herbal company, Mayway Corporation, and also serves on the board of directors for the American Association of Acupuncture and Oriental Medicine (AAAOM).

Empathy, compassion and humor are integral to Janet’s practice. She provides guidance for your lifestyle change; and focuses clinically on psychological and emotional challenges such as depression, insomnia and anxiety, cardiovascular and digestive issues, arthritis, inflammation,  palliative oncology care, and women’s health. Her practice is complementary to conventional medicine treatments, and she is always happy to work with other medical providers to provide the best care for her patients. Janet actively works to promote greater integration of acupuncture and Oriental Medicine into U.S. healthcare.
